Chain Reaction I - 2006 We started our performance at noon. Repetitive sounds of ignition. Although we calculated the duration in advance the actual slow pace of the flame didn't match our imaginations. A couple of hours passed, many visitors stopped by. We made lunch in the neighboring room. When we came back, the flame was still alive, moving and breathing oxygen. Six hours passed and the light outside started to fade. The flame still moved forward. People gathered around the flame and slowly moved along with it. The last few lines everybody sat around the flame as if it were a campfire. We stared into the flames, soft voices, the shhhzz .. shhzz of ignition, and then the last meter, the last minute, the last seconds and there was only darkness. People applauded and the lights went on. We saw long lines of kohled matches, bended by the heat. © Sarah van Gameren 2006 |
